DEAF TEEN: HEARING WORLD

Deaf Teen: Hearing World

Watch five deaf teenagers on BB3 on 6 February

This week, you can watch a documentary, Deaf Teens: Hearing World by new director Claire Braden about five deaf teenagers and their lives.

Christianah is one of them. Christianah is in her last year at Mary Hare School, and has a sassy attitude to deafness.

Christianah loves music. We caught up with her.

Buzz: In the documentary, you talk about going to a music festival. Tell us more!

Christianah:
I love music festivals. I get to go camping with my friends and go to different stages to watch bands perform. I love the 'Bombay Bicycle Club!'

I do know it can be difficult to get fully involved. I have got some reactions from people like "Errrr this is a music festival, why are deaf people here?" As if we have no taste or we cannot hear at all! You can still enjoy music no matter what people say!

One time, I got to go to a Silent Disco. 3 of my deaf mates went in this huge tent and were given some headphones along with everyone. Because everyone else had headphones we couldn't hear each other. We put the volume up to the max and got to sing along to songs without worrying if we were terribly out of tune!

Buzz: The documentary talks about being nervous about the future. What advice are you gonna give?

Christianah: I'm never going to doubt my ability!

Find out more about the five teenagers on Deaf Teens: Hearing World, BBC3, Monday 6 February at 9pm. Or scoot over to the iPlayer if you miss it.

Sassy Christianah even has a blog, and she has strong views on why she thinks Deaf people can join the airforce. Go have a look http://amiclearenough.blogspot.com/
